Our Polteq test engineers are multidisciplinary professionals that can adapt to all circumstances. Whether it is a more traditional development environment or an Agile project, our test professionals can do it all. The test engineers that work with us understand what software testing means. They know that our profession goes beyond just testing itself. Test engineers with real passion for the profession. All common test methods, such as ISTQB and TMap®, are part of the basic knowledge of our test professionals. All test engineers have knowledge in the field of test automation, a number of which specializes in this. Other expertises are performance testing, security testing and mobile (app/API testing). Polteq also has testers with knowledge of specific domains (branches) such as finance, energy and telecom.
“Testing and quality are intertwined. Therefore, it is important to employ professionals and Polteq provides them. Polteq is forward-thinking. That’s important because the world is changing and Polteq is changing with it.”
Frans Pleij, IT Manager at Aegon
The tasks of test engineers includes, among other things, the design of test cases (test specification), the test execution itself and the analysis of test results.
First of all, the test engineer is looking for a good test basis (information on how the system should work). Test cases are designed using the test basis, where the tester applies formal and informal design techniques. If the project approach prescribes ‘scripted testing’, the tester first sets up all test cases (not yet on the critical path of the project) to be executed at a later time (on the critical path). In many cases this approach is supplemented with exploratory tests, in which the tester combines the test design directly with the test execution.
Not all tests are carried out by hand. Increasingly, tests are carried out automatically. Automating test cases with open source tools or in one of the large tool suites is the standard rather than the exception for the Polteq test engineer.
During the execution of test cases, the tester closely monitors the behavior of the system: is this in line with the expectations? Remarkable or suspicious behavior is reported, after consultation with other professionals, such as developers.
The Polteq test engineer will sketch a picture of the quality of the tested system and indicate whether sufficient tests have been carried out for a reliable conclusion. This conclusion is based on test results, combined with the professional opinion of the test engineer. Upon completion of a test project, test cases and other relevant matters are made suitable for reuse in a subsequent project or for the management department.
“The knowledge level of the Polteq test engineers is of a high standard. They understand their profession. They are enthusiastic and passionate and that is important in in our field.”
