For the second year in a row Marc van ‘t Veer will be speaking at the Mobile Dev+Test conference in San Diego from 24-28 April 2017. This conference addresses mobile development for iOS and Android as well as mobile testing, performance, design, user experience, smart technology, and security.

From Polteq, Marc van ’t Veer has been selected as speaker. Wednesday, April 26 he will give an introductory half-day tutorial workshop Introduction to Testing REST APIs and the more advanced workshop Advanced Techniques for Testing REST APIs.

Introduction to Testing REST APIs

An API (Application Programming Interface) provides information or content to mobile applications, and in turn, the application presents this content to the end user. The API is a service and a crucial element in the success of any mobile application. Because this is a service, the fundamental question is: How can I test an API behind an application? In this introductory tutorial Marc van’t Veer focuses on what REST APIs are and how to test them. Marc starts with basic concepts of the message architecture in an API and then explains elements like resources, verbs, states, headers, and tokens. With an understanding of these building blocks, you’ll have the foundation to start testing APIs. During this hands-on workshop Marc will share demos and examples of tools. You will have the opportunity to participate in exercises that give you the knowledge to recognize typical risks related to these interfaces.

Advanced Techniques for Testing REST APIs

Improving your API testing skills allows you to give your development team better feedback in more efficient and effective ways. So how do you test whether the API is easy to use, whether it’s scalable, performing at an acceptable level, and how secure is it? In this advanced hands-on workshop Marc van’t Veer explains how to define and implement a dedicated test strategy, use tooling to compare versions of APIs and versions of a resource, use headers with tokens, create Java scripts to automate tests with assertions, and execute performance tests. In addition to theory the workshop includes practical exercises, where every exercise focuses on a different API and different types of implementation. Learn what the specific weak points and risks of APIs are and how to apply techniques to mitigate these weaknesses.

Marc hopes to see you at the conference and offers you a special discount code MDT17MV40 to get a $200 off.
