ISTQB Advanced
The ISTQB Advanced Level syllabus provides content for three training modules, respectively:
- Advanced Level Test Manager (5 days)
- Advanced Level Test Analyst (5 days)
- Advanced Level Technical Test Analyst (4 days)

These trainings are all accredited by ISTQB. Polteq arranges the examination following the courses.
Level Test Manager
In the first module Test Managers learn to define the overall testing goals and strategy for the systems being tested; to plan, schedule and track the tasks; to describe and organise the necessary activities; to select, acquire and assign the adequate resources to the tasks; to select, organise and lead testing teams; to organise the communication between the members of the testing teams, and between the testing teams and other stakeholders; and to justify the decisions and provide adequate reporting information where applicable.
This training is intended for experienced test professionals and focuses a.o. on test objectives, test strategy, work planning, organizing testing, staffing, test teams, communication, monitoring, reporting and controlling the test process.
Level Test Analyst
In the second module Test Analysts learn to structure the tasks defined in the test strategy in terms of business domain requirements; to analyse the system in sufficient detail to meet the user quality expectations; to evaluate the system requirements to determine domain validity; to prepare and execute the adequate activities, and report on their progress; to provide the necessary evidence to support evaluations; to implement the necessary tools and techniques to achieve the defined goals.
This training is intended for test analysts and focuses on the ability to prepare and execute adequate testing activities such as analysis, design and execution. The participants will be able to analyze the system in sufficient detail to meet the users’ expectations for quality. Participants will also learn how to evaluate system requirements to determine validity for the business domain.
Level Technical Test Analyst
In the third module Technical Test Analysts learn to structure the tasks defined in the test strategy in terms of technical requirements; to analyse the structure of the system in sufficient detail to meet the expected quality level; to evaluate the system requirements in terms of technical quality attributes; to prepare and execute the adequate activities, and report on their progress; to conduct technical testing activities; to provide the necessary evidence to support evaluations; and to implement the necessary tools and techniques to achieve the defined goals.
This training is intended for test analysts and focuses on the ability to perform technical testing skills, and to analyze the internal structure of a system in detail. Main topics: testing process, test management, test techniques, testing of software characteristics, test tool & automation.
Who should attend?
The ISTQB Advanced Level qualification is aimed at people who have achieved an advanced point in their careers in software testing. This includes people in roles such as testers, test analysts, test engineers, test consultants, test managers, user acceptance testers and software developers. This Advanced Level qualification is also appropriate for anyone who wants a deeper understanding of software testing, such as project managers, quality managers, software development managers, business analysts, IT directors and management consultants.
To receive ISTQB Advanced Level certification, candidates must hold the Foundation Certificate. For each module the full ISTQB Advanced Level syllabus content is examinable. Detailed learning objectives per module are defined. Passing all modules allows the candidate to obtain the “Full Advanced Level Testing Professional” certification.
